Character Background:
Most characters in League do not have an advanced background. Sorry! Here's what we know:
No one knows Sona's parents or origin. When she was a babe, she was plopped down at an adoption center with her instrument. The adoption agency took her in. Sona was never a trouble maker, but because she lacked speech, no one wanted her. She was defective and stayed under foster care until she was a teenager. The people who ran the adoption center needed money, and they tried to get it by selling Sona's weird ass instrument off to rich folks. The object would always return or appear outside the house even when sold off. It clearly contained supernatural powers, and powers that were attached to the girl.
A woman named Lestara Buvelle caught wind of Sona having a special magical instrument that randomly kept appearing, and adopted her. Lestara began to train Sona in using her instrument, called an Etwahl. Sona flourished under her guidance and began to headline as a famous musician. Who could blame the audience? They were literally mesmerized by Sona's ability to shift and change their emotions.
Sona then discovered a new, and somewhat frightening use for her Etwahl:
Yes, she discovered how to cut objects from a distance using musical vibration. This ability drew her to the League of Legends. The League is basically a magical battlefield, where people are summoned into a large arena and controlled to fight over various national disputes. So she joined up..and that's where she is now.
Okay, this game isn't all too creative when it comes to character designs. When Sona communicates with people, she often uses musical terminology and words that normal people would not use. Keep in mind that she NEVER actually speaks. In league, all her communication is done via telepathy. This isn't an ability of her's, it's just how the all powerful people who summon her decide to interact with her. Some of the stuff she says when moving is along the lines of:
"Accelerated movement, I concur!"
and
"With perfect tempo."
Yes, like I said, she uses music terms a good bit. She is also intelligent, kind, compassionate, and well behaved. She is also a fairly sad and lonely person. For most of her life, she was treated as a defect. This bugs her, and was seen especially bugging her at the end of her league judgement, which she played a song both mournfully sad and accepting. This naturally means she's probably afraid of rejection. Her main way of communicating with the world is sound, if she's happy, she'll play a happy little jig, etc.
Speaking of the league judgement!! You may have noticed that some things make no sense at all in it. However, it is canon! League Judgements are basically hallucinations used to test the person who wants to join before entry. No, her musical instrument is not out for blood. No, it can not run away from her and act like an independent person. League judgements are like..events?? Everything is really an illusion.
Oh..and she's in a heavy metal band with a few other of the league people for some reason, but it's never elaborated on. Like, at all. :l
Abilites/Special Powers:
Sona doesn't walk, she floats, which is worth mentioning.
She can manipulate the emotions of the people around her. This is kind of a big deal, lol. She manipulates emotions using her instrument and can change the emotional state of those around her within listening range. She cannot manipulate thoughts or actions, just simply turning someone from sad to happy. Sona is a kind person and she doesn't use her abilities for fucking people up unless they bother her. However, it's assumed that she can create fear as well as peace in listeners.
Sona can also use her melodies to do a few things. She can boost the abilities of a nearby people and use her music to attack an enemy. She can boost the defenses of a nearby people and heal a single target. She can also speed herself and allies up or slow a foe down. She can also fire a column of sound in a straight line and cause people to be obsessively compelled to dance for a few seconds. This dancing effectively immobilizes anything caught in it.
She is versatile! However, Sona is..Sona. She is a support character, meaning there is not much she can do on her own. Sure her music used to attack hurts, but it doesn't do as much damage as...say..a silver cross bow bolt to the face. She excels at helping glass cannon characters stay alive, deal more damage than usual, and chase down escapees. She's the one who makes the silver cross bow bolts hurt harder.
Now for a practical example! If she's fighting with your character while boosting their strength, your character will find themselves stronger, their magical abilities hitting harder, and themselves physically more powerful. This is a significant difference. It will not make your characters godly, but they will be able to detect it. Her ability to make people hit harder is why she's charged so hard by everyone in a game!!
Third-Person Sample:
And so she did what she usually did every morning, but this time in a new location. Her hands, skillfully and easily, plucked strings to create notes that were weaved in such a harmony that it could threaten to leave those nearby in tears. The melodies were almost palatable as she leisurely drew her hands across the instrument. This place was not right. She wasn't sure exactly how she knew that, but it was probably because everything was so pristine. There was not a spot of dirt where it should not be, not a single blade of grass that wasn't manicured out of place. It disturbed her.
This wasn't what she wanted to be doing with her life. This..idle..moldering away and solving nothing. She wanted to fight, which was a bit odd, given her usually calm and content nature. Little Sona and her strange instrument often faced perils unlike anything even this world has seen. Still, she did it for a reason. She believed in going where her talents took her, and if they took her to war, then so be it. The melody slowly shifted, improved, and became clearer as she focused.
It hit her in this wide, open field, with no one to hear her, that she sorely missed home. She missed her audiences, she missed the friends that she made. She missed staring down the same stretch of grass (bottom lane, of course), and doing what she did best. She even missed the summoners, who were occasionally rude and clumsy, but mostly well meaning. She wondered over the individual names of her fellow brawlers and wondered what they would do in her shoes. The tempo lowered, and her song became steadily more mournful.
First-Person Sample: (Sona uses musical terms in her speech, which will be in italics.)

I give my apologies to whoever owns this.
However, I seem to be some distance from home, and I must return prestissimo.
Can anyone who locates this point me in the direction of the Fields of Justice?
[Some time passes, and it's clear she has no idea how to work this thing.]
Or is there someone who can explain this predicament to me? It was that I simply was one place, then somewhere else, soudainment. A strange occurrence, but I suppose magic can be unpredictable sometimes even in the most deft fingers.
